Promises about Sonnets

I felt as through a dark tunnel I had passed in dreamless sleep
and stood in morning brightness dazzled, unaware;
there were women in that clear place – I started
none of them were you, but all were elegant, concerned

and I knew them well from lines poor other sods had done
how dare this dream exclude you? Lise the latest blousy blonde and fair
put her hand on mine. Think you it's easy being here
she asked.  Petrarch's Laura smiled.

We do our best. If hell, this isn't bad. A girl can laugh.
But temper craftsmanship with love and tell it straight
what's truest and express with style.
We'd love to meet your Maíre if she joins us by and by -
and oh forget the publications they don't sell
                                                                    remember
it takes two to really sonnet well.
